Benefits of Shiatsu
Shiatsu is a gentle yet powerful ‘hands-on’ healing treatment for maintaining good health originating in Japan. It is a deeply relaxing experience and regular Shiatsu sessions help to prevent the build up of stress as well as effectively helping to treat many conditions (please contact me for more details).
You don’t have to possess a specific condition to benefit from Shiatsu. It is an amazing treatment to receive as a well deserved treat for your body, enabling you to deal better with the daily strains and stresses of life, quite simply Shiatsu supports and strengthens the body’s natural ability to heal and balance itself.
Being an Oriental therapy, Shiatsu is based on the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine where a vital energy, (‘Ki’ in Japanese) flows throughout our body in a series of channels called meridians. For many different reasons Ki can stop flowing freely and this then produces a symptom. For example back pain, neck pain or headaches and if left un treated can develop into more serious conditions.
As your Shiatsu practitioner I will assess your state of health and the symptoms you are experiencing and then tailor a treatment unique to your needs using a variety of techniques to improve your energy flow. These may include gentle holding, pressing with palms, thumbs, fingers, elbows, knees and feet on the meridians and when appropriate more dynamic rotations and stretches. As the Ki starts flowing the symptoms you have experienced due to your stagnant energy flow will gradually improve.
The beauty of Shiatsu is that it works on the individual as a whole person, not just the physical body but also on the emotional, psychological and spiritual level. Shiatsu treatments are given on large and very comfortable treatment table and if required an ergonomically designed chair, the client stays fully clothed throughout.
In Japan, Shiatsu has been recognised by the Government as a trusted and valuable part of their health system since 1964. Here in the West the European Parliament has now recognised Shiatsu and included it in the European Register of Non-Conventional Medical Disciplines.
